Compare the whole roof. Use this checklist when reviewing a shingle or metal roof replacement proposal.
Different estimates can include different work. Mark the items you have discussed, then ask about anything left unclear. This checklist stays on this page and is not sent to Weather Shielders.
Roof removal & protection How many layers are being removed? What is included for disposal, site access and protecting landscaping? Decking & hidden damage How will damaged decking be documented? Ask for the approval process and unit pricing before concealed repairs begin. Exact roofing system Compare manufacturer, product line, profile, finish and color. Include underlayment, starters, ridge components and required accessories. Flashing & penetrations List roof-to-wall transitions, valleys, pipe boots, chimneys and skylights. Clarify what will be replaced and what will remain. Ventilation & drainage Ask how intake and exhaust will work together. Confirm roof-edge and gutter work, including any separate drainage scope. Schedule, payment & changes Confirm estimated timing, weather delays, payment milestones and how changes will be agreed in writing. Cleanup & final review Ask about debris removal, nail collection, final photos and a walkthrough or completion review. Written warranties Separate product, finish and labor coverage. Compare exclusions, maintenance requirements and the process for requesting service.
