THE STARTING POINT
Look beyond the surface.
The project began with painting and wood-rot concerns. Further investigation revealed moisture beneath the tiled deck and problems with the under-deck drainage. The scope expanded to address the layers above the framing and the route water took away from the home.
THE WORK
Connect the deck to its drainage.
Weather Shielders removed the tile assembly, installed waterproofing and wall flashing, and finished the surface with gray composite decking. The documented work also included replacing a leaking gutter with seamless aluminum gutters, adding downspouts, extending stair access and installing two ceiling fans below the deck.
THE FINISHED SPACE
A new surface, with the details underneath addressed.
The finished photo shows the composite deck at the same home. The Houzz project also documents the removal work, water-management details and design renderings considered before installation.
These photographs show this specific project. Your home's framing, drainage and selected materials determine the scope for your own deck.
